Calling All Writers

Certainly the economic downturn has negatively impacted the publishing business. At the same time it forced the powers that be to take a closer look at how they conduct business. This means the largest publishers in the world are searching for talent in the form of new writers.
Nothing Binding is attracting more agents and editors than ever before. However, when your profile is too clever or glib and your photo is compromised by your pet or book cover in the place of your face, then publishers back off.
If they read about you but cannot hear your voice or see you speak via audio or video, then you’ve missed the opportunity to raise your credibility as an author who is worth promotion. You need to capitalize on the one chance at making a positive impression because the time is short in which to catch someone’s eye.
Nothing Binding will continue to provide this service free to any and all writers and authors. The more agents and editors we can attract to browse your profiles the better. This is what creates opportunities in today’s marketplace.
Thank you for your hard work Jerry
Your advice and your point is well-taken about how aspiring writers must look and sound as professional as possible. I realize that promoting ourselves as authors can be just as important as promoting the books we've worked so hard to polish. Everything is important, every step of the way and successfully marketing and selling a novel is not easy, but not impossible.
I've updated my profile and I've recently re-vamped my manuscript to make it more marketable and after two years, it is now available to agents and publishers. I believe that I've achieved my goal and that I've written the kind of story that people will be talking about, but more importantly, buying.
Thanks for the opportunity to post my novel here, Jerry. You've put a lot of time and work into your website and it certainly shows. With the help of my editor, Jill Kelly, I've done the same with my debut novel. Effort for effort, we're on the same page.
Continued success to you,
Alberto Rios

Marketing your book via Blogs and other media
Right on the money, Jerry.
This is something we forgot to mention in our marketing advice page (http://akwbooks.com/authors/marketing.htm) so we'll have to post a link to this article.
We assume all too often that authors understand that they are in a business. Guess that's kind of naive given that authors are often "dreamers" at heart. It takes someone like you to give them a kick in the pants to remind them that dreaming may get the book written, but won't necessarily sell it.
You're performing a great service, pal. Keep it up.
Al, for AKW Books
Perception is Reality in Publishing
Alberto,
Everything is about presentation, the better you present yourself and your writing the better chance you have of being spotted by an agent or editor. They are interested in good stories and authors that can be promoted. You have done a very good job of positioning yourself as an author. Thank you for the kind words and best wishes for continued success.

Let the Movement Begin
Al,
Thank you for all the work you do for the author/writer community. If we could establish a network of people like yourself, we could change publishing and make consumers aware of all the Independent titles not found in bookstores. All it takes is a little communication and a movement begins. I'm ready to tackle the idea of selling our books independently of the traditional marketplace. This is a great place to start!
