Description

Teenager Astrid shifts to the Hook Bay on the Oregon Coast to live with her grandfather after her mother is killed in an auto accident.

Her senior high school year includes relationships, good and bad with her friends and the love and encouragement provided by Steve her grandfather. She is a talented artist who uses her paintings to express her feelings of the world around her. In a school research project Astrid discovers historical Coast Guard documents from World War II that predict that during a severe storm the Pacific Ocean would beak through a peninsular of sand dunes and flood Hook Bay. in a 'fifty year' flood condition. The climax of the novel comes when an earthquake sets a tsunami up off the Oregon coast. There is very little warning and decisions need to be made quickly. Astrid tells her school principal that she thinks an incoming tsunami would breech the nearby cliffs and flood the school grounds. The tsunami arrives but are Astrid's predictions are correct?
