Using humour to keep his sanity Gerry escapes prison but he has to hide from the authorities and yet find those who framed him. The landscape ranges over Northern England and Amsterdam.
This thriller is about Gerald Ricketts (43), a UK musician who can’t believe he is falsely accused, convicted of a killing in a jeweler’s store and imprisoned. In spite of his self-deprecating humor he is horrified by prison life and escapes with the help of Wendy, the prison librarian. He has to endure a dangerous winter trek across the Northumberland moors, and hides in a small Cumbrian port, ironically becoming a criminal to prove his innocence. A Dutch crime syndicate is involved and send a hit man to silence Ricketts. In an obscure twist he uses Wendy as a hostage to escape a police trap, using a friend’s motorbike to get to Amsterdam. His friends there put themselves at risk to hide him, but he's there to seek the truth. He narrowly escapes another attack but is captured. After a bizarre revelation, does he return to prison in Britain? Or do the criminals desperate attempt to kill him succeed? All the clues are here, but – is there really an Escape from Reality?
