Description

I was sheltered growing up. My mother suffered from depression, but we never knew it. My parents divorced when I was young. My mother worked long hours to support us. There were five of us-me, my three sisters and one brother. When my mother was depressed, she would lock herself in her room and tell us she was sick. She grew so depressed that she had a breakdown. It took a long time for her to recover. Years later, when I went into the hospital for depression, I learned that it is hereditary. I watch my children closely. If I suspect that they're showing signs of depression, I will get them help immediately. I do not want them to go through what I went through. It almost ended my life.
