Description

The Lord High Magician of Shehaios has two symbolic possessions which are handed from one generation to the next. The first is a cloak, signifying the difference in appearance of Shaihen magic through time. The second is a staff woven of many different types of wood, symbolising the stories of the people of Shehaios, the source of the Magician's power. The first volume in the Shaihen Heritage series, Cloak of Magic, ended with the treacherous killing of the Shaihen king. It left the Lord High Magician's power dangerously diminished and his staff in the hands of a band of landless rebels fighting the rule of the Empire of the Sacred Union. The second book traces Lord High Magician Kierce's attempts to salvage the heritage of Shehaios, the Fair Land, while fighting a battle against his own weakened state. Some of the stories which begin to weave a new layer to the staff of Shaihen power are those of Caras, Chief of Oreath; Sheldo, the late King's nephew; his young friend Alsareth, Caras's daughter; Girstan of the as-caii; Queen Cathva of Shehaios; and a young, truth-seeking priest, Aruath.
