Growing up in small town Plant City, Florida Rain Jenkins knows that the world has more to offer than the unremarkable life she has lead so far. Caught between doing what is expected through the worlds eyes and having the life she has always dreamed of, Rain finally reaches her breaking point. The daughter of a mother who once embraced the counter culture of the 1960’s, “Rainbow” finds herself trapped and married to a successful but physically abusive husband. Accepting “Entebbe’s” proposal at the unusually tender age of fourteen, Rainbow is showered with all the material things most women would enjoy. Making the most of her daughter’s largess, “Lorraine” quickly leaves behind her previous aversions regarding commercialism and accepts the immediate benefits of being the mother-in-law of a rich man. Unfortunately for Rain, her lifestyle comes with an enormous price, which she must pay in pain and self esteem. With those who purport to love her urging her to stay and cater to her husband’s every whim, Rain seeks independence and a happier future. When Rain realizes that love can come when least expected and in a form that is not the norm, that is when she finally lives for herself. Casting aside self-doubt and the preconceived notion that “God made Adam and Eve and not Eve and Nina,” Rain teaches everyone around her that love has no colors or boundaries.
