Tillie Tilden, first-time teacher in a one room school in rural Minnesota in the early 1930s discovers that the previous teacher committed suicide in the school's wood-room. Or was it murder?
The Spiral Bridge takes you back to the early days of the Great Depression and life in rural Minnesota as you follow a determined young woman from the city of St. Paul thrust suddenly into a strange new community. Tillie Tilden loves her students and particularly one mentally challenged student, hated by his father. At a dance she meets Albert, a tall, handsome farmer and deputy sheriff who sweeps her off her feet. Together they go round and round until they learn answers to many questions about why a beautiful young woman would hang herself in the wood storage room of the very school where she was a teacher. The Spiral Bridge circles and ultimately leads to a new road for both Tillie and Albert.
