Biography
Matthew Abuelo is an up-and-coming New York poet and freelance writer. He has won numerous awards including editors choice award from the national library of poetry, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003. He first made a name for himself as an anti-war/activist poet after being banned from a coffee house on Long Island for reading poetry expressing anger over the invasion of Iraq. Mr. Abuelo's first collection of poetry "Last American Roar" can be purchased both at NB and at lulu.com. Mr. Abuelo also writes political blogs on blogit.com and problogs.com and has been the featured reader at several forums throughout Long Island New York. His newest book, "Organic Hotels" can also be purchased at lulu.com
Inspiration
I follow the Beat scene and post-Beats. My favorite poets and writers are Carlos Castaneda, Patti Smith, Alan Ginsberg, Jim Carroll, Lou Reed (among others).
