Biography

Someone once said that writers often have childhood life experiences that set them apart from others. In my case, it was simply growing up without having a lot of other kids around me. In those "pre-cable" days, we relied on our imagination for entertainment and it wasn't long before my imaginings moved onto paper. By the time I was 7 I knew I wanted to write--an outgrowth of playing "Let's pretend" with my next-door neighbor Danny--and I've been writing since then. Fiction is my love (a way to play "let's pretend" on paper), magazines articles are my bread-and-butter, and self-help/inspirational books are my focus for the future. I write every day: work writing, journal writing, "play" writing (writing for fun). Right now I am working on my second book--Say "Yes!" for a Change--plus a children's book series (together with my grandson Zack). And then there will be a book for and about writers once I wrap Say "Yes!" Writing is liberating--especially if you are shy (as I was). For me, it is so much a part of my life that I can't separate it from anything else I do. I can't resist challenging myself. I believe that even if it doesn't work out, there was something good that will come out of trying. This is what led me to do more radio interviews and personal appearances. (I love to travel!) My radio show, “Take Charge of Your Life,” is my latest challenge—and I am loving every minute of it! And I enjoy teaching—both writing classes (especially at writing conferences) and my “Rut-Busting” Workshops—and convincing others to "take a chance and change their lives!" I believe we can all be so much more than we are, that we have gifts and abilities that are waiting to be tapped. So if I can help (or push) someone to explore these talents, then I believe I have done what I am supposed to do—make a difference. I'm also a gardening fanatic, an exercise buff, and a book addict. (I haven't met a book I didn't buy...)

Inspiration

My inspiration comes from so many places--music (right now I am listening to Suzanne Ciani's "Pianissimo"), books, nature, overheard conversations...anything and everything can start the creative juices flowing. Personal experiences such as the loss of my mother provide a different kind of inspiration. When you go through a major life event, it can't help but change you, and that in turn changes your writing. But I need to spend a lot of time alone (easy enough when your office is in your home!)
